Romain Graziani

Author and translator

Romain Graziani is Professor of Chinese Studies at the École normale supérieure de Lyon. He studied Philosophy at the École normale supérieure de Paris before turning to sinology, completing a thesis on the Art of the Mind in the Writings of Master Guan (Guanzi). He has written Fiction and Philosophy in the Zhuangzi: An Introduction to Early Chinese Taoist Thought (Bloomsbury, 2021), L’Usage du vide (Gallimard, 2019) and Les Lois et les Nombres. Essai sur les ressorts de la culture politique chinoise (Gallimard, 2025); and translated into French ancient Chinese texts, notably Xi Kang’s L’Art de nourrir le principe vital (L’Asiathèque, 2022) and his memorable Letter to Shan Tao (Une voix pour l’évasion. Tsi K’ang et sa lettre de rupture. Fata Morgana, 2015). In 2024, he co-translated with Song Gang Le Détachement féminin rouge, a novella by Jiang Yun. With Song Gang he has also co-translated Hu Shih’s autobiography and a foundational text by Liang Qichao, likewise published by Hermits United.
