In 2010, Cédric Villani received the Fields Medal for his work on the Boltzmann equation and Landau damping. A former student at the École normale supérieure de Paris, he teaches today at the École normale supérieure de Rennes. He is the author of Birth of a Theorem: A Mathematical Adventure (Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 2015).
